The Île-de-France region has set itself the mission to facilitate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and intermediate-sized enterprises (ISEs). To this end, it has entrusted the Systematic Paris Region competitiveness cluster with the establishment of an interactive mapping tool to list suitable research and AI solutions for all use cases of businesses in the Île-de-France region. This initiative will soon be integrated into the regional platform IDF Smart Services.
A platform dedicated to data sharing among industrial partners
In order to promote collaboration and the joint development of AI solutions, the region plans to establish a platform dedicated to data sharing among industrial stakeholders, such as ATOS and SNCF. Preliminary results have already been obtained through platforms such as Codalab from the University of Paris-Saclay or Ipol from ENS Cachan.
A regional support to establish a sovereign computing and storage solution
The Region will also support and finance the creation of a sovereign computing and storage solution for businesses, in collaboration with players already engaged in these domains such as OVH, Genci, Teralab, or Teratec. This initiative aims to facilitate the recruitment of doctoral candidates by companies and benefit AI researchers.
Training, a major challenge for the development of artificial intelligence in Île-de-France
Since 2019, the Region has partnered with Microsoft and Simplon to train 200 profiles per year in artificial intelligence technologies. These training sessions aim to increase the skills and knowledge of professionals in the Île-de-France region regarding AI solutions.
Strengthening the leading position and international attractiveness of Île-de-France
To accelerate AI development, the Region supports the Digihall project. This is a European digital innovation hub that brings together CEA List, INRIA, Systematic, IRT SystemX, Telecom Paris, as well as DataIA and major industrial partners on the Saclay Plateau. This project notably allows for stimulating cooperation between regional and international actors.
International exchanges at the heart of the Île-de-France ecosystem
Île-de-France is actively working to strengthen its ties with other key regions in the AI sector, such as the province of Quebec and the Seoul region, with which it has already signed cooperation agreements. Furthermore, collaboration is planned with Bavaria to establish a global network of artificial intelligence hubs as part of the AI4EU initiative.
An international communication strategy to highlight regional expertise
To enhance its visibility and attractiveness on the global stage, the Île-de-France community seeks to develop coherent and collective communication around its skills and achievements in the field of artificial intelligence.
Removing technological barriers in priority sectors
Artificial intelligence serving health and the hospital of the future
While AI offers numerous opportunities to improve disease prevention, diagnosis, and monitoring, its integration in the health sector faces certain constraints, particularly related to the complexity of accessing the necessary data for algorithm training. This is why, since 2019, the Region, in partnership with Medicen and the Gustave Roussy Institute, has launched a challenge dedicated to oncology that was won by the startup Owkin. Building on this success, the Region continues this model with AP-HP and the Curie Institute by proposing challenges with a maximum amount of 1.5 million euros.
In summary, the Île-de-France region is actively engaged in the development and democratization of artificial intelligence for the service of local businesses. Through initiatives such as the creation of data-sharing platforms, professional training, and support for innovation projects, the Region aims to strengthen its leadership and international attractiveness in this key sector of the future.
